Furniture Redo - "White Wash"

Righto, another projected completed...

How you ask, do I possibly have the time, when I'm a mother of 3 rambunctious boys, cook fabulous meals, keep a spic and span house and laze around reading books???

Well... it just so happens that the shabby chic look works with a lazy person like myself....  My 3 kids join in half the time (see pic with boys using said furniture as an animal play pen as paint is drying....),  I LOVE to eat food, so that's the real reason I cook, and my spic and span house is all in my imagination....  and does the iPad count as reading??

While one could prime and sand and probably do things in more detail and with more care, I throw a slap of paint on most things and attack it with my sander.....  And if I'm going for age and distress look, I'm not partial to perfection...  In utter laziness I don't even get changed into old clothes.  If I had to spend too much time and effort on such things I'd never get anything completed.  I reckon, just get in and do it roughly rather than procrastinate and never start!!!!  (Long live distressed and aged shabby chic!).  I know it's not for everyones tastes.

The perfection likes in my imperfections...

So that is how I find the time to do weird projects to furniture.  My poor suffering Mr H isn't as partial to the shabby chic look like I am, but I adore it.  Him, along with my mother, wonder why I like to make old furniture that is run down, look older.  I say, old furniture that is just old, looks old.  Old furniture that I paint and make a bit shabby looks like I care and 'maybe' people forgive that it's old and it falls into the 'oh cute!' category...?????

Either way, as long as I like it right!

Today I bring you a white wash experiment.... I had found this random furniture item at a local charity store for $6....  (about $4 US).

Yes it's old.

I thought it would be the perfect height as a night stand, side table, or in my bathroom that has limited shelving but lots of space... and I needed something next to the bath...

I diluted white paint with water, grabbed a rag, and applied layers that I rubbed in and sanded...

Between dry times item was put to good use.  Multi-purposing furniture repo + play time!  WIN.  As it's a rub and dries quickly and I can just sand off a finger print and knew I was going to sand this back, I wasn't worried.  THIS is how I get things done - I'm very relaxed.  Slightly mental.

In the bath it did wind up, and I love it!  Works for me!
